I
purchased Sadie, an Australian Shepherd and Border Collie
cross, in 1977. She was a wonderful companion and family
pet. Sadie was one of the smartest dogs I ever seen
and consistently placed with high scores in both sub-novice
and novice obedience classes at matches and 4-H shows.
Sadie and
my grandmother adored each other. Since my grandmother
lived alone, I let Sadie live with her. Sadie faithfully
guarded my grandmother and kept her company until Sadie
died in 1988. Although my grandmother always had an
Aussie after that, none could ever take the place of
Sadie in her heart.
We owe Sadie
much gratitude for the countless hours of companionship
she provided to my grandmother. Sadie could always be
found beside my grandmother keeping an alert eye out
for any danger, especially while my grandmother was
gardening.
